Any time you see his brain glowing red, do a homing jump to hit him. Stay back when he starts his spinning arm attack, or just attack him. When he perches on top of a light pole, get away, since he's about to use an arm swipe. Don't try to attack him when he's in puddle form and you'll be fine. He takes three hits. EGG HORNET Area: Mystic Ruin-- Tails's workshop Attacks: missiles, drill attack Difficulty: --_____ This one's easy too. Once he becomes stationary, get out of there. He's about to fire a wave of missiles at you. Once he stops, stand still. When he begins the drill attack (signified by him saying "All systems-- full power!"), run towards the camera slightly. Once he gets stuck in the ground, do a homing jump to hit him. Each time you hit him, the missiles will come in extra waves, up to three. Just keep running around to avoid them. KNUCKLES Area: Mystic Ruin-- lake Attacks: punch, thrust punch, glide Difficulty: --_____ Although not technically a boss, you'll have to fight Knuckles after completing the Icecap zone. Try to get a homing jump or spin dash into his side or back, since he can't be damaged from the front. After two hits, he'll start gliding around. Knock him out of the air with a jump, then quickly do a homing attack to hit him. Like with all fights against playable characters, he takes three hits. CHAOS 4 Area: Mysic Ruins-- lake Attacks: geyser stream, shockwave, triple bubble, arm swipe Difficulty: ---____ You'll fight Chaos immediatly after fighting Knuckles. Since this takes place over water, you'll have to jump constantly unless you're on a lily pad. To put it bluntly, the water in this fight looks stunning. His pattern differs, and no matter how many times I fight him, I can't seem to predict it right. Just make sure not to stand around. When he does a backflip, he'll knock you out of the sky and sink any lily pads in the way of the wave. Remember to jump over the shockwaves and homing attack him when he lifts his head out of the water. After a few hits, he'll split into three giant bubbles. Just use your homing attack away from it (if you aren't curled up in a ball-- which you shouldn't be-- it's called the "jump dash") until he reforms, then wait for him to stick his head out of the water and deliver the final blow. After this fight, you'll have the ability to play as Knuckles. EGG CARRIER Area: Sky Chase Act 2 Attacks: charge beam Difficulty: --_____ This fight is simple. Just hammer on the button you use for a trigger. Don't even worry if you get hit. Although it takes off a lot of life, the blast is easy to avoid and you can still get some solid hits in. E-102 GAMMA Area: Egg Carrier Attacks: missiles Difficulty: -______ This is another 3-hit fight with a playable character. Just bombard him with homing jumps before he targets you. Once he starts flying around, don't worry, and just keep up the homing attacks. Once Gamma is defeated, you can play as him. CHAOS 6 Area: Egg Carrier-- spinning green reactor area Attacks: vacuum, bite, tail slash, etc. Difficulty: ----___ This fight is simple, but not easy. First off, be sure not to fall in the holes into the reactor or you're through. Use a jump attack (homing or regular, it doesn't matter) on one of the freeze bombs that Eggman drops, then pick it up with Y and toss it at Chaos. He'll freeze, so attack him. Since his brain isn't showing, this is the only way to hurt him. Watch for variations in his pattern and, if the situation looks hopeless, jump dash away. If a bomb is hit and he sucks it in, it will still freeze him, so keep an eye open. After this fight, you'll be able to play as Big. EGG VIPER Area: Egg Carrier-- exit of the Final Egg zone Attacks: laser strafe, spinning disk attack, kamikaze slam Difficulty: ------_ All Sonic final bosses are tough, and this is no exception. He starts off with two waves of laser fire (signaled by his saying "Get a load of this!"); just run side-to- side to avoid this. After that he'll position himself straight ahead over the abyss, saying something like "Come on, I dare you" or something. Use a homing spin to hit him. For the rest of the fight, whenever you get a hit in, do NOT touch the analog pad until you're back on the ground. After this, he'll do two more waves of laser fire, a frontal- oriented laser blast with a large radius, and will position ahead in front of you again-- this time, with the "tail" extended toward you. On the tail are three green pods. Remember all the homing attack "enemy bridges" you had to cross in Red Mountain and Final Egg? Well, in order to hit him you have to do the same across the three pods in order to hit Eggman. He'll do this same basic pattern with minor variations a few more times. After a few more hits, he'll strafe twice, then position himself at the end of the platform and come straight at you with laser fire. Just avoid this and hit him again. Now he'll throw spinning blades at you. This part is similar to the Wing Fortress boss in Sonic 2 or the Rusty Ruin boss in Sonic 3D Blast; you'll need to jump on the blade and let it return you to him, then homing attack him. He'll do this one more time (with faster blades). After this, keep a close eye on his shadow! A hintball will appear and tell you that he's about to smash into the platform. Stay away from him!! You haven't felt frusteration until you've survived this whole hellish fight, just to die here. ......................................................................................... EGG WALKER Area: Station Square-- Casinopolis area Attacks: bombs, flamethrower, stomp Difficulty: -----__ The only boss unique to Tails's game, you'll fight him immediatly after completing the Speed Highway zone. The Walker's pattern varies too wildly than I'm willing to cover. Just try to stay underneath it, because there are few attacks there. When Eggman lifts one of the four legs, run away from it, then try to hit the pod on the foot any way you can after the shockwaves dissipate. Once the pod it hit, the Walker will be thrown off balance and you can hit him with a jump. Just make sure to hit the correct side of Eggman's cockpit, since you don't get anything if you hit the backside of it. After he recovers, hit or not, he'll leap to the other end of the arena, throw some bombs at you, and start charging. Again, stay under him. This time, he'll stomp twice, so remain out of the shockwaves' radii until both are finished, then tail whip both of them. Keep this up, and watch for variations in the pattern until he's finished. Luckily, unlike Sonic's final boss, this one doesn't have a desperation attack. ......................................................................................... K N U C K L E S ------------=============== CHAOS 2 Area: Station Square-- Chao garden Attacks: arm sweep, arm lunge, condense Difficulty: ---____ This fight is hard mainly because of the sporadicy of the rings. You'll have to rely on the charge punch (press the attack button thrice) to hit him most of the time. The same "attack the brain" strategy as always is the best. Wait out his giant bubble routine, or just knock him out of it with a glide. Try to stay in the air when things get rough. SONIC Area: Mystic Ruin-- lake Attacks: jump, spin dash, homing jump Difficulty: ---____ Another three-hit wonder. Just use your punch attacks mostly, and watch out for his desperation attack, the homing jump attack. CHAOS 4 Area: Mysic Ruins-- lake Attacks: geyser stream, shockwave, triple bubble, arm swipe Difficulty: ----___ You'll fight Chaos immediatly after fighting Sonic. Since this takes place over water, you'll have to jump constantly unless you're on a lily pad. To put it bluntly, the water in this fight looks stunning. After a few hits, he'll split into three giant bubbles. Just glide away from it until he reforms, then wait for him to stick his head out of the water and deliver the final blow. Try to keep "instinctive" punching to a minumum, since it might cost you more time than you can survive, what with the water and all. CHAOS 6 Area: Egg Carrier-- spinning green reactor area Attacks: vacuum, bite, tail slash, etc. Difficulty: -----__ This fight is simple, but not easy. First off, be sure not to fall in the holes into the reactor or you're through. Use an attack (punching or gliding, it doesn't matter) on one of the freeze bombs that Eggman drops, then pick it up with Y and toss it at Chaos. He'll freeze, so attack him. If a bomb is hit and he sucks it in, it will still freeze him, so keep an eye open. ......................................................................................... A M Y ------------===== ZERO Area: Egg Carrier Attacks: homing punch, shockwave, arm whips Difficulty: ---____ For being a last boss, Zero is easy-- in fact, he's almost fun. Just run at him and knock him into the electric fence. This will take a few hits. Once he hits the fence, his top will flip open, revealing a big green button. Smack this to get a hit in. Any kind of attack will be okay when he's preparing the homing punch, but when he jumps around and creates shockwaves, it's best to try to time a jumping hammer attack to hit him while he's on the ground. He's invincible during the electric arm whips, so jump rope over them. He takes three hits. ......................................................................................... B I G ------------===== CHAOS 6 Area: Egg Carrier-- spinning green reactor Attacks: vacuum, bite, tail attack, etc. Difficulty: --_____ Chaos 6 is quite a bit easier in Big's quest, and, considering his weapons, takes a very different strategy to beat. Because he is made out of water, he can still be fished in :^D. This is how you beat him. First run up close to him to get a good idea of Froggy's exact location, then run backwards a bit and try to catch him. Yes, you heard me right!! I think it only takes one direct (and I mean DIRECT) hit to beat him. ......................................................................................... E 1 0 2 G A M M A ------------================= E101 BETA Area: Egg Carrier-- internal chambers Attacks: blaster Difficulty: -______ This might be even easier than Chaos 0. Just target and fire. If you have any doubts that you're going to get hit by a missile, just blast it out of the air. SONIC Area: Egg Carrier-- deck Attacks: spin dash, jump, light speed attack, homing jump Difficulty: -______ Same strategy, target and fire. Enough said. E103 DELTA Area: Windy Valley Attacks: Blaster Difficulty: -______ Target and fire. E104 EPSILON Area: Red Mountain Attacks: blaster Difficulty: --_____ Guess what? Target and fire. E105 ZETA Area: Hot Shelter Attacks: rotational blaster Difficulty: ---____ Not quite so simple this time, as you have multiple things to hit and you're on a rotating platform. However, it's not impossible, and since there's a semi-hidden invincible right before him, it can be easy or hard depending on what you choose. Just say it with me: "Target and fire." E101 MKII Area: Egg Carrier-- spinning green reactor Attacks: various blasting attacks, charge, teleport Difficulty: ------_ Ouch. Beta's not hard because of his firepower, but because of his shield. I'm sure you're familiar with the frontal shields of Chaos 2 and 6 by now. Amplify that by about 5, and you've got Beta's shield. Only a solid hit to his back will suffice, and oppritunities are few and far between. And this ends up turning into a waiting game. And as I learned the hard way both here and in Hot Shelter, the time limit can be the devil. If he positions himself sort of under the camera (zoomed way out), just run around, since he'll fire some bombs at you. If he starts his charge move, sidestep it and try to blast him. (Incidentally, I still only had the one-barrel gun when I fought him the first time.) It's a good idea to get into "tread mode" (just run fast for awhile) while he's preparing the bombs, as it allows you to sidestep much quicker. Good luck. ......................................................................................... S U P E R S O N I C ------------=================== PERFECT CHAOS (first strike) Area: Station Square-- ruins Attacks: fireballs, laser beam, tornado launch Difficulty: ------_ Don't flinch or you're done for. If you're familiar with the basics of Super Sonic, then you'll know what I mean. If you aren't, familiarize yourself!! :^) You can hang back a little to get extra rings, but be sure to go as fast as you can straight at him, avoiding his attacks all the way. You should be trailed by a blue swirling aura if you're going fast enough, but occasionally you'll make it with a yellow one. You'll need to run straight up into his base and spiral up towards his brain. If you make it, you'll damage him; if you don't, he'll just kind of spit you out. In either case, he'll reappear at the opposite end of the "arena". He takes three hits. That may not sound like much, but believe me, it is. PERFECT CHAOS (second strike) Area: Station Square-- ruins Attacks: fireballs, laser beam, tornado launch Difficulty: ------- And just as the screen blacks out in such a way as to suggest an ending, he reappears with a full life bar! It's always a good idea to do your best to get here with at least 40 rings, and even that's cutting it close. Use the same tactics as before, but beware-- he's a lot faster with his attacks and the fireballs can be near impossible to avoid sometimes. Good luck, you'll need it! ......................................................................................... Thanks to.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chris Kohler for writing that "way past cool" SA FAQ. That's where I got the boss strategies for Zero and Perfect Chaos in my Limited Edition version of this file. Thanks dude! My parents, who helped me earn $300 for my Dreamcast, and also for renting me Limited Edition, which this guide was originally based on. The Sega Sound Team for all those kickin' tunes and Jun Senoue for Sonic music in general. Johnny Gieoli of SST for that weird accent I've picked up from Open Your Heart. "Psychic Ice Goddess" or "Psy" from the World of Nintendo chatrooms for indirectly making me create the character Frostbite the Articuno, after whom I named my silver Chao, Shimogamu (Japanese for Frostbite). Kristen, for being so nice to me :^) God (of course) for giving me my quick thumbs. ~ Peace! --c r a n i u m 7 cranium7@hotmail.com http://s3.homepad.com // ////// // ///////// // /////////// // //////////////////
