Also, I'll rate them on six things: difficulty, does it look cool, does it sound cool, cinematics, attack damage, and something else (depends on who it is). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHILD =========================================================================================== boss of INSIDE THE DEKU TREE parasitic armored arachnid GOHMA Difficulty: really easy Does she look cool?: pretty dang cool, OK detail Does she sound cool?: kinda bland, but gross Cinematics: OK intro, awesome death, two thumbs up Attack damage: not bad but you ARE living off of three hearts... Can bugs cry?: absolutely ........................................................................................... Queen Gohma's easy. Once she drops from the ceiling the first time, get close and use a Deku Nut, then slash her as many times as you can. Be sure to lock on before she recovers. Once she gets back up, pull out your slingshot and ready a Deku Seed, then release when her eye turns red (don't worry about aiming, since you're locked on, right?) Repeat the slashing/slingshotting pattern. At this point she's almost helpless if you're quick to fire. =========================================================================================== boss of DODONGO'S CAVERN infernal dinosaur DODONGO Difficulty: not bad if you know the right moves Does he look cool?: not really... Does he sound cool?: a little intimidating, but usually not that spectacular Cinematics: gotta love how he dies, two thumbs up Attack damage: he's not a slacker Thank God: for Z-targeting ........................................................................................... You need quick reflexes for this fight. In general, the best thing you can do whenever he starts rolling at you or breathes fire is to get as close as you possibly can to the lava, -> WITHOUT <- touching it. If you're not steady-fingered enough to do that, it's better to get in the lava since his attacks REALLY hurt. Anyways. Once he stops, Z-target him and ready a bomb. Get about ten game-feet away from him and toss a bomb into his mouth (Holy Zelda flashback, Batman!! :). If you Z-target then you'll NEVER miss. Once he's down then run in and slash him (try to get a few jump attacks in, too). Repeat the process and enjoy the death sequence :D. =========================================================================================== boss of INSIDE JABU-JABU'S BELLY bio-electric anemone BARINADE Difficulty: prepare yourself with a fairy or two Does it look cool?: sorta Does it sound cool?: if you like listening to thunder Cinematics: kinda blah, one thumb up Attack damage: about medium, but hard to avoid Best move to use: the backflip/side-jump ........................................................................................... Barinade is confusing. I'm afraid that I can't really be of much help, since I fought him a while ago and only once. Pretty much just stay Z-targeted and circle the perimeter of the room, but be careful of the spikes. Keep throwing your boomerang at him and run in for a sword slash while he's vulnerable, then back away and repeat. At some point it'll summon some little jellyfish dudes that you can take care of with your boomerang. Be sure to circle the room constantly, since he quite enjoys spitting lightning at you. =========================================================================================== boss of BOTTOM OF THE WELL DEADHAND Difficulty: hardest boss as a kid Does he look cool?: if you like horror movies Does he sound cool?: very, very zombie-like Cinematics: not as scary as he is, one thumb up Attack damage: stay out of his way He somehow resembles: Marilyn Manson ........................................................................................... Deadhand's a freak, and he's not easy. Pretty much the only way to get him to surface is to get grabbed by one of the hands, then hammer on A as fast as you can to get away. Once he's shuffled up to you and reaches his head down, do a backflip and slash his head. Then run to the opposite side of the room and get grabbed by a hand to repeat the process. By the way, Deadhand comes back for a rematch in the Shadow Temple (as a mid-boss). He's much easier there since you'll have the Master Sword or Giant's Knife. =========================================================================================== sub-boss of SPIRIT TEMPLE IRONKNUCKLE Difficulty: pretty easy, easier with Nayru's Love Does it look cool?: kind of, really detailed Does it sound cool?: no Cinematics: remind you of the Armos statues, anyone? Attack damage: one hit can kill you Take advantage of: the pillars ........................................................................................... I have two words for you: Z TARGET!! Keep him targeted at all times. You may want to play it safe by using Nayru's Love, since one or two hits can kill you. Once he gets close and winds up for an attack, do a backflip and draw your sword, then go in for a jump attack (you may need to run in first because the Kokiri Sword's so short). Keep repeating this until he dies (and you get the Silver Gauntlets). He'll come back when you're an adult, but he's a lot easier with the Biggoron Sword. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ADULT =========================================================================================== boss of FOREST TEMPLE evil spirit from beyond PHANTOM GANON Difficulty: hard the first time through, but easy once you know his patterns Does he look cool?: yes Does he sound cool?: kinda Cinematics: a little dumb, one thumb up Attack damage: ouch The little Triforces: are your best friends ........................................................................................... Remember this fight. The experience'll come in handy when you fight Ganondoof... uh I mean Ganondorf. Run to one of the tiny Triforce brands around the arena and stay there. Now switch to the arrows and look around the room for Ganondorf in one of the paintings. Once you spot him, watch to see if he turns around or comes out. If he comes out, fire at him (quickly, for heaven's sake!) but if he turns around then wait until he disappears and look around again. The real one will have attacked but you're safe on the Triforces. After a few hits his horse'll die and he'll start floating around near the middle of the room. Push A to get out of the arrow sight, draw the Master Sword, and lock on. Now, if you've fought Agahnim in Zelda 3 or 4, then you'll know what to do here. When he fires at you, hit the energy ball with your sword back at him. Be prepared to volley it back and forth a few times, and when it hits him, run in for a jump attack, then back away and repeat. =========================================================================================== boss of FIRE TEMPLE subterranean lava dragon VOLVAGIA Difficulty: harder than many people say Does he look cool?: extremely Does he sound cool?: yeah Cinematics: nothing special but OK death scenes, one thumb up Attack damage: medium Ever played: Whack-a-Mole? ........................................................................................... Volvagia (besides having the coolest name IMHO :) has two attack patterns, and both are simple. At first he'll stick his head out of one of the lava holes, preceded by an eruption. Run up to him (after he's swung his hair-tentacle-dreadlock things) and smash his head with the Megaton Hammer, then switch to your sword and slash him a few times and back away. After awhile he'll start faking you out by appearing in a different hole than the one that erupts, so be prepared. His second pattern is to fly around the room and toss some boulders at you. You might be able to block them by holding your shield upwards but it's safer to just run around and avoid them. Here you can hit him again after an attack with the hammer. =========================================================================================== sub-boss of WATER TEMPLE SHADOW LINK Difficulty: not only that, he's harder than Ganondorf! Does he look cool?: yep Does he sound cool?: yep Cinematics: awful intro, awful death, two thumbs down Attack damage: as bad as you want it to be He could be: a mime when he grows up ........................................................................................... People have written entire FAQs on how to beat Dark Link, so I'll just make one simple point: few attacks can hurt him. Z-target him and block all of his attacks, then use Din's Fire. It's as simple as that... almost. Quite often he'll run away and leave you down 6 MP. Be sure to bring plenty of green potions!! If you run COMPLETELY out of magic AND potions, use the Megaton Hammer cautiously. One thing you should be aware of is that once you hit him, he'll reappear directly behind you. Roll out of his way and target him again. =========================================================================================== boss of WATER TEMPLE giant aquatic amoeba MORPHA Difficulty: not toooooo hard, but not easy Does it look cool?: a little, but the tentacles are awesome Does it sound cool?: kind of Cinematics: okay, one thumb up Attack damage: high Hardest part: the spikes ........................................................................................... Morpha's midway between easy and hard. Lock on to him and continually fire the Longshot while circling the room. (Be careful of the spikes on the walls.) Once you can hook him, slash him with your sword. Morpha has a simple attack pattern, materialize a water tentacle or three and try to grab you. The tentacles are easily avoided, but make sure to get out of their way as top priority since they take of a $#!*-load of life. =========================================================================================== boss of SHADOW TEMPLE shadow phantom beast BONGO-BONGO Difficulty: easier than most Does it look cool?: yep Does it sound cool?: it sounds like drums, that's what Cinematics: nice beat, two thumbs up Attack damage: not bad What the heck is: that huge hole in the middle of his head? ........................................................................................... Bongo-Bongo is simple but hard to avoid. First of all, equip the Giant's Knife (reccommended, but not nessecary), the Goron Tunic (in case you fall off the drum) and the Hover Boots. Take out your bow and blast each of his hands in turn. It's okay if it takes a few tries, since one of the hands releases arrow bundles. Once the hands are gone, turn on the Lens of Truth and lock on to Bongo-Bongo's... uh... pustule... and fire an arrow at it. I reccommend switching to the Kokiri Boots here. Run up to him and get in a jump attack or two, then RUN AWAY!! He'll do a nasty clapping move here (remember to turn off the Lens). Repeat the pattern. Oh, by the way, the Hover Boots don't need to be equipped, but they keep you steady while you're aiming your arrows. =========================================================================================== bosses of GERUDO'S FORTRESS GERUDO THIEF Difficulty: you can't die, but still hard Do they look cool?: midway Do they sound cool?: cat-like Cinematics: two thumbs down Attack damage: pretty frickin' high Is it really a boss?: the debate rages on ........................................................................................... You'll fight four Gerudo Thieves, one for each carpenter you free. Block at all times. It might be tempting, but be sure to equip the MASTER SWORD so that you can block. Stay locked on and hit her when she's winding up or recovering from an attack. You should handle them like you did the Stalfoses. Only thing to watch out for, with one hit from the jumping spin you'll "die" and start over, and YOU CAN'T ALWAYS BLOCK IT. Do a side jump and hit her while she's recovering. =========================================================================================== boss of SPIRIT TEMPLE sorceress sisters TWINROVA Difficulty: not that hard Do they look cool?: nice elemental effects Do they sound cool?: expect bad memories of flying apes Cinematics: hilarious death scene, two thumbs up Attack damage: pretty dang high …The award goes to: Twinrova, for most innovative way of being beaten ........................................................................................... Twinrova is the most fun boss in the game. Start off by equipping the Hover Boots, it makes platform-hopping easier. Second, EQUIP THE MIRROR SHIELD!! It's the only wat to beat her. Go to one of the side platforms where they aren't. Third, hold out your shield. DON'T lock on. When one of them fires an elemental attack at you, reflect it at the other sister. In other words, if Koume (ice) shoots ice, reflect it at Kokame (fire) and vice-versa. Once you've gotten enough hits in, Kokame and Koume will merge into one being. Go to the middle platform and lock on, then hold out your shield. WATCH WHAT THE FIRST ATTACK IS. The attack will be stored in your shield. Now, wait for her to fire another attack of that same element type. Once you get three ices or three fires in a row, then she'll go down and you can slice her a few times. If she fires, say, an ice if you have one or two fires stored up, jump out of the way, or you'll get hit... =========================================================================================== boss of GANON'S FORTRESS great king of evil GANONDORF Difficulty: as hard as Shadow Link Does he look cool?: yep Does he sound cool?: you better believe it Cinematics: nice death scene, two thumbs up Attack damage: really high Remind you of: the second form of the Forest Temple boss? ........................................................................................... Ganondoof is arguably the hardest boss in the game. First off, for convinience reasons, I'll give the equipment setup for the last two bosses. Be wearing the Hover Boots, any tunic you want (I prefer the Goron's), and any shield you want. Have the Master Sword equipped on B, and on the C-buttons have the Light Arrows, the Hookshot, and a red or blue potion. Once the fight starts, your life will have refilled automatically. Now, when you're done playing with the equipment (don't look too deep into that...), run to the corner. Now face him. Use C-UP if you need in order to line up, since you don't have Z-targeting for most of this fight. Now walk to about the middle of the corner tile, so that you're far away from Ganondorf but still have a comfortable camera angle. When he fires a bolt of light at you, hit it back with your sword. Be careful, you may need to knock it back and forth around twenty times, and it's stronger with each hit. Once it finally hits him, _quickly_ switch to the Light Arrows and blast him. Now you can do one of two things. 1: If there are enough tiles intact, run slightly sideways and hover to the center tower from the side. 2: If most of the tiles are knocked off, lock on and grapple onto him with the Longshot. With either case you should use the jump attack with the Big- goron Sword. Once he's back up, hover to a side platform and repeat. A few things you should be aware of: first, if he starts powering up a black hole, you should switch to the Kokiri Boots and run around the perimeter, rolling once he fires it. However, if there aren't enough tiles for it, leap off the side to the bottom of the tower. Sure, you'll be a little hurt, but not as much as if you'd taken the hit. The second thing you should know about is this area. There are a ton of pots here. Try to leave them all intact before the fight! If you get low of arrows, magic, life, whatever, then come down here and break a few pots. Once you beat Ganondorf, use Nayru's Love and the Hover Boots as you follow Princess Zelda to safety. =========================================================================================== last boss GANON Difficulty: considerably easier than his human alter-ego Does he look cool?: boy howdy Does he sound cool?: not really Cinematics: bloody, two thumbs up Attack damage: on par with Ironknuckle Haven't I seen you: in Zelda 1, 3, and 4? ........................................................................................... Ganon is a lot easier than in any previous game (thanks to Navi). He takes a lot of hits, though, and if you let him hit you then you get knocked all the way to the ring of fire (I reccomend the Goron Tunic here). First off, equip the Biggoron Sword (or if you don't have it, don't equip anything), any shield you want, and the Kokiri Boots. In the C-buttons you should have the Megaton Hammer, the Light Arrows, and a potion, fairy, or Lon Lon Milk. You don't get an energy refill this time but don't worry about it. First of all, stay locked on. It automatically switches targets when nessecary, so don't worry about that. Fire a Light Arrow into his head (which is the target when you're in front of him), and circle him so that you can hit his tail (the target in back) with the Biggoron Sword/Megaton Hammer. Keep doing this until the fire subsides and you can get the Master Sword. At any time during the fight, you can lure Ganon to one of the pillars and have him smash it, revealing valuable items inside. Once you have the Master Sword, switch to it and go back out to him, repeating the same pattern. It's almost over now. Once Zelda intervenes, give him one last his right between the eyes. Something you should know: if you run out of magic or arrows, and you've used all of the pillars, do this. Click Z so you get out of targeting mode and roll right between his legs, then do a jumping slice. =========================================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Cranium 7 email: cranium7@hotmail.com webpage: http://cranium7.homepad.com Thanks to Expert Gamer magazine for all of the strategies and maps they have My mom, for getting me Zelda 4, and thus, getting me hooked All of the people who wrote FAQs that I read, who include Kidteck, Bob Dole 53, Roland Carlos, Michœl Alfera, DaRk_OnE, and a few others Shigeru Miyamoto for making this gem of a game EGM magazine for ranting on about how great this game is God, for giving me such a talent (?) for videogames .......................................................................................... •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()
