NAME: Megaman X SYSTEM: Super NES MAKER: Capcom PRODUCER: ??? GENRE: Platform/Shooter GRAPHICS: 7. A little outdated but not that bad MUSIC: 10. Not many instruments, but who cares? It rocks! FUN: 8. The number says it all REPLAY: 2. No incentive, and not too fun playing it multiple times in succession DIFFICULTY: 7. Hard for some players ENDING: 7. Cool music and a good foundation for the surprisingly good MMX storyline STORYLINE: 8. Again, surprisingly good MULTIPLAYER: N/A. (one player) ORIGINALITY: 7. Takes the original Megaman formula and greatly improves it REALISM: 6. It would be if it were the 21'st century CONTROL: 10. No problems MATURITY: 7. The soundtrack and just the fact that you shoot a gun will attract anyone How do you rate a game like this? It's a classic. I could really bash this game for its effect-free graphics and beep-like sound, but I won't. I'm going to act like it's '91, when this was first released. Otherwise, it'd be like, I don't know, rating Zelda 1 against Zelda 64. So nothing about the datedness. Anyway, from a graphics standpoint, they're very clean, although there are NO special effects and it seems to be too pastel a few times. C'est la vie. The sound is one of the best parts, going from classical to rock at a second's notice. Capcom got the control right the first time around; the only time there are any problems is in its second sequel with upward air-dashing. The passwords are annoying, but you can live with it. Zero and Sigma are cool and really tie in with the story in future games. My fave part though, is the way it passed the "cuteness barrier" of the original Megamans and blew it up in the process. I recommend getting this... if you can't get MMX2 or X3, which are only slightly better. Hopefully there are still some re-released copies floating around out there...
