NAME: Pokémon Snap SYSTEM: N64 MAKER: Nintendo/HAL/Jack and Beans PRODUCER: GENRE: action? GRAPHICS: 9. Very good for the N64 MUSIC: 8. Catchy, but clearly midi formatted FUN: 10. Heh.... who'd have thunk? REPLAY: 4. Short... a great rental DIFFICULTY: 3. You can only expect so much from a photo-shooting game... ENDING: 2. Pointless STORYLINE: 4. See above MULTIPLAYER: n/a ORIGINALITY: 10. If there's something like it out there, I haven't played it REALISM: 8. Fairly, but it's still Pokémon all the way CONTROL: 9. No gripes here MATURITY: 5. See "realism" It's a simple idea-- try to take pictures of a bunch of Pokémon. And it turned out great. Pokémon Snap is basically a point-and-click shooter, with nothing worse to shoot with than a camera, some apples, or Pokéballs filled with smelly stuff. I'm not sure why this game's any good-- it shouldn't be. But it is. The graphics are good for 64 bits (jeez, I'm brain- washed by the Dreamcast already :^), and I like the occasional SNES-style sprites in the menus. The music's good too-- better than the GB Pokémons', but I still prefer real music to midi. There's a downside to this game though.... it's short and easy. Very short, and fairly easy. Maybe 6 hours tops. But that makes it an excellent rental. That's what I did. OVERALL: ******** 85% Reviewed on 1.28.2000
