I have no idea why REPLAY: 7. Getting all of the courses for Trial Mode is all DIFFICULTY: 2. Even the novice can whoop this game's arse ENDING: 5. Cute and pointless STORYLINE: 3. Bah, humbugh MULTIPLAYER: n/a (one player) ORIGINALITY: 7. A VERY nice looking Mario platformer REALISM: 8. 2 & 1/2-dimensional graphics make it so CONTROL: 10. No quibbles will you get out of me MATURITY: 1. The "Super Happy Tree"... hmm... Undoubtably, if you've read any game magazines in the past year, you'll know how badly the Yoshi's Island engine was dummied-down and mushed into little pastel blobs; thirty-two of them, to be precise. Yes, that's how many levels this game has. YI had almost double that many. This may well be the most signifigant change in any sequel from its original, EVER. Plus the fact that you can only play six of them in any one game. The simplicity and over- all theme has, as the UK-based Total 64 noted, "raised the genre to new levels of fluffy marshmallowiness." This is, however, the perfect game for beginners or kids (the game is actually my sister's). And even with all of the bad points, one thing really stands out: the amount of fun you have when you play. YS is just so wonderfully easy to get in to and fun to play that you won't really miss any of the Yoshi's Island features. This is def- initely a game to rent first.
