V G H A C K F A Q codes, tricks, and glitches cranium7 =========================================================================================== FINAL FANTASY VI ******************************************************************************************* T R I C K S €€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€ vanish/doom and vanish/x-zone ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a convinient little trick that you can use to defeat many bosses and almost all enemies instantly. First, you'll need to have the espers Phantom and Shoat (or Fenrir). Once a character in your team has learned Vanish, and another learned Doom or X-Zone, you can kill most of your enemies in one hit! As you should know, any character (in your party or otherwise) that has Vanish cast on him/her/it becomes immune to physical attacks but increasingly weak against magic. You can take advantage of this by doing the following: first, cast Vanish on the enemy, then Doom or X-Zone. One thing you should be careful about: if Gau, Mog, Umaro, Gogo, or any character that is muddled or berserk uses any magic attack on your target, it will reappear and Doom/X-Zone will likely miss. Using the Gem Box greatly helps. Another important thing to be aware of: whatever you do, do NOT use Vanish/ X-Zone on Doomgaze in the World of Ruin. If you do, you cannot get the magicite of Bahamut. You CAN, however, use Vanish/Doom. You can also cast Doom/X-Zone on anyone that is vanished by itself, like the Intangirs, Ninjas, Gabbledaks, and Wrexsoul. The following is a list of the bosses that are affected by this trick. Marshal M-TekArmor Ultros Chupon AtmaWeapon Phunbaba Presenter (shell) Dullahan Storm Drgn Allo Ver (X-Zone only) SrBehemoth (X-Zone only) Chadarnook (X-Zone only) Doom Gaze (Doom only) Red Dragon Ice Dragon Tritoch White Drgn Larry Curley Moe WrexSoul (X-Zone only) Master Pug Blue Drgn KatanaSoul Hidon (X-Zone only) Dirt Drgn Atma Gold Drgn Skull Drgn (X-Zone only) Doom Goddess ___________________________________________________________________________________________ attack eight times per round ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This trick is very effective when you've using a strong physical fighter like Cyan or Sabin. Equip the Offering and the Genji Glove to that character, then the two strongest swords you have. When you select Fight you will attack multiple enemies a total of eight times (Four attacks times two swords or whatever). ___________________________________________________________________________________________ cast twenty magic attacks per round ___________________________________________________________________________________________ This has to be seen to be believed. Equip your best magic user (probably Terra or Celes) with the Economizer (found by stealing from Aquila or beating a Brachosaur) and the Gem Box (at the top of the Fanatic's Tower). Equip the rest of the party with Wall Rings. First, have one of the three "extra" members cast Rflect on the magic user. Now, switch to the magic user and cast a reflectable spell (like an elemental attack, Flare, Bio, etc.) on the whole party (using L or R), then cast Quick (learned from the esper Raiden). Now cast four more reflectable spells on the party. You don't have any control over who the spells hit, but it's worth it against a tough enemy like the MagiMaster or Kefka himself! Better yet, since all spells are 1 MP, try using this to cast five Ultimas if they're not weak against any particular element. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ various stealing tricks ___________________________________________________________________________________________ You can get all kinds of great items by stealing with Locke. Equip him with the Sneak Ring and the Thief Glove and see what turns up. (You may want to keep the Thief Glove off if you want the enemy to last longer.) Many of the bosses get you Elixers or items even better than that (for example, Earthguards and Kefka on the World of Ruin can get you Megalixers). Some enemies have some great weapons (try stealing from the Marshal in Narshe early on and the two "Number"s in the Magitek Research Facility). Also, try stealing from Dragons on the Floating Continent (Genji Gloves) and the SrBehemoths. Also, if you want some super-strong fighters against Kefka, try stealing from the two targets on the third tier of the final battle. If you're successful, you can get a free Atma Weapon and Ragnarok! Imagine, wearing the Genji Glove and swinging two Atma Weapons or two Ragnaroks.... One more thing, if you equip Locke with the Thief Glove and the Offering, you can Capture four times. And also, you can get some free Magicite by stealing from Flans and Intangirs. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ best places to get higher stats in the world of balance ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The best place to get Experience is on the continent with Vector on it, or the Floating Continent. Another good place is Lete River (see "Level 99 in a few days," below). Only bring three fighters. To learn spells quickly, go to Triangle Island and fight Intangirs, or go to the Phantom Forest and fight Ghosts. To get more GP, fight the Intangir. To learn more Lores and Rages, do the steps described in the next section. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ best places to get higher stats in the world of ruin ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The best place to get Exp. is the forest north of the Veldt. Bring three fighters and three Exp. Eggs (you can get more by betting Tintinabars at the Colosseum or by Ragnaroking Harpies). Make sure to take advantage of the Vanish/Doom trick, and also to get Economizers. If you want to learn some spells quickly, go to the Fanatic's Tower and equip four Wall Rings or use the 20-spell trick mentioned above. To get more GP, go to the desert south of Maranda and equip four Thunder Shields. And to learn more Lores and Rages, take a team of Gau, Strago, Relm, and someone who needs more spells to the Veldt. Have Relm wear the FakeMustache and Control enemies to see their moves, then use them if Strago can learn them. If not, have Gau leap and learn new rages, otherwise just kill them. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ to get enemies on the veldt ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To learn a Rage, you need to get an enemy on the Veldt. You may be wondering why you saw a really strong monster with a really strong Rage, but can't find it on the Veldt. One reason: IN ORDER TO GET A MONSTER ON THE VELDT, YOU NEED TO HAVE DEFEATED IT (the Colosseum doesn't count). For example, say you didn't get the Monster-in-a-box on the Floating Continent, which is a Gigantos. You won't have a chance to learn the rage. Another example: say, you meet the Intangir on Triangle Island, but can't beat it. You can't learn the rage. Yet another example: you fight the SrBehemoth in the Cave in the Veldt, but you kill him with X-Zone before he attacks from behind. Only the undead SrBehemoth appears on the Veldt, and since you didn't technically fight him, you can't meet him on the Veldt. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ get the paladin shield ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you've gotten Locke from the Phoenix Cave, take him to Narshe. Go to a house on top of a cliff (that was unoccupied in the World of Balance). Go down the stairs and talk to the wounded man. He'll give you the Cursed Shield, which has a defense rating of 0 and is weak to everything. In battle, wearing this will give you character all kinds of bad effects, like muddling, slow, and condemnation. Equip that character with a Ribbon to counteract all of the effects except Condemned. Equip it for a whopping 255 battles to get the Paladin Shield, which is invincible/strong against everything, boosts your defense increadibly, boosts your first four stats by 7, and teaches you Ultima x1. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ learn ultima twice as quickly ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just equip the Ragnarok esper and the Paladin Shield at the same time. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ boost attack effects ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Equip Gau with the Merit Award and no weapon to increase his Rage strength, and Umaro with the Gauntlet to increase his defense slightly and his attack considerably. Also, use a Green Cherry on Umaro to boost every stat for one fight. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ cure status ailments for free ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If someone in your party is poisoned, zombified, etc. then equip a Relic that prevents that (e.g. the Goggles to cure Dark) and they will be cured. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ get to level 99 in a few days ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Get to Lete River in the World of Balance. Now, once you're on the raft, jump off at the first save spot, go to Config and change Cursor to Memory, then save. Now, select "up" at the next fork in the road. Do the following with each fighter in a battle: Terra: fight Edgar: AutoCrossbow Sabin: fight Banon: health At this point, activate auto-fire on the A button (oh by the way, YOU NEED AN AUTO OR RAPID FIRE CONTROLLER FOR THIS TRICK). Now turn off the TV, but not the SNES. Check back once in a while so that you don't die or something. Once it's time to go to sleep, turn back on the TV, turn off autofire, and kill Banon. Now save once you return to the save point and repeat this for three or four days. - (added 10.13.1999) With this trick, Locke will NOT gain any extra levels. Try to keep him out of your party, and when he's required, protect him with your strongest armor and a True Knight on another character. He may level up at the Phoenix Cave when you find him, but I don't know for sure yet. - (added 11.20.1999) It appears that once you get through the banquet at Vector and Locke is required, he jumps up quite a few levels; to the same as Cyan and Gau on my game. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ get mog and the water rondo dance in the world of balance ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Right after you've gotten Terra back from her Esper form in the World of Balance, go to Narshe and go through the cutscene until you can move around, then go outside and go to the treasure house. Once you go inside, you'll meet up with Lone Wolf who stole the Gold Hair- pin. Chase him until you get to the spot where the esper Tritoch is, where he's holding a moogle hostage. Stand still until they both get thrown to the edges of the cliff. Now you have a choice; either you can get Lone Wolf and recieve the Gold Hairpin (you can get plenty of them later) or you can talk to the moogle and he'll join you. Go get Mog, it'll do you good. Once you've gotten Mog, take the airship to Nikeah. Take a Chocobo from there all the way to Baren Falls (yes, the path north is open). You'll end up on the Veldt. Go from here to the Serpent Trench where Mog'll learn the powerful Water Rondo. You'll end up back at Nikeah, where the airship is waiting. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ get shadow in the world of ruin ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you beat the Atma Weapon on the Floating Continent and find Kefka and Gestahl fighting each other, Shadow will try to keep the Statues of the gods of magic in place. Once you've beaten Nerapa and gotten to the airship, wait until Shadow shows up about five seconds before the Continent falls apart. If you let Shadow die, his ending will change (obviously), and you'll find Relm in the Cave in the Veldt instead of him (Shadow wasn't programmed to live through the end of the world originally, so that's why your team refers to him as "she" when they rescue him from the Veldt). ___________________________________________________________________________________________ get gogo the mime ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you get to a high enough level, go to Triangle Island in the World of Ruin and get sucked in by the ZoneEater. You'll land in Gogo's cave. Get to the end to make it a powerful addition to your team. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ get umaro the sasquatch ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you get Locke in the World of Ruin and return to Narshe, go through the hidden entrance in the cliff or through Arvis' house, and go to the moogles' cave where you'll find Mog waiting for you (be sure to check the wall where he was standing). Now, go through the area where you chased Lone Wolf until you fight (and get) Tritoch. Now, jump into the hole in the cliff where he was and make your way through until you fight Umaro and get the magicite of Terrato. Once you beat him, talk to him and he'll join you if you have Mog in your party. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ get kappa the imp ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, you can't REALLY get Kappa, but it's close enough. First off, bet an Elixer at the Colosseum to win the Rename Card. Second, equip a character with the Imp Halberd, the Imp Armor, the TortoiseShld, and the Titanium (all of which you'll get eventually). Now rename him/her/it "KAPPA" and cast Imp on him/her/it. Kappa has good offensive qualities with unbeatable defense. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ kill all undead enemies instantly ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If all Doom does to an enemy is heal it (or a break/doom weapon heals it completely) then it's undead. There is an amazingly simple way to kill it: use Life, Phoenix Down, or a Revivify. Also, Cure spells and Potions hurt it. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ super-powerful desperation attacks ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once one of your characters kneels in battle from low hit points (this happens to everyone on screen if you use W Wind), select Fight and you have like a one in twenty chance of doing an attack that hugely hurts or kills the enemy. The following is a list of moves done: Terra: Riot Blade throws sets of cresents at an enemy Locke: Mirager dashes with a surprise attack at an enemy Edgar: Royal Shock light beams damage an enemy Sabin: Tiger Break does a jump kick in a tiger head at an enemy Cyan: Back Blade does a single Quadra Slice in the dark at an enemy Mog: Moogle Rush hits an enemy with Sabin's Blitz, Pummel Setzer: Red Card hits an enemy with three card attacks and zero fanfare Relm: Star Prism kills an enemy instantly with some stars Strago: Sabre Soul kills an enemy with a noise like Quartr and a slash Celes: Spin Edge does a cyclone attack with her sword on one enemy Shadow: Shadow Fang hits an enemy with a claw slash Gogo: X-Meteor hits all enemies with a large meteor Gau, Umaro, Vicks, Wedge, Kupek, Kupop, Kumama, Kuku, Kutan, Kupan, Kushu, Kurin, Kuru, Kamog, Banon, the ghosts on the Phantom Train, and Leo don't have a desperation attack. ******************************************************************************************* G L I T C H E S €€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€ relm's sketcking glitch ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This glitch is pretty famous by now and actually pretty dangerous. It happens when you use Relm's "Sketch" move on an invisible or oversized enemy (Control is still okay). When it happens, a number of things can happen: the game could freeze up, the graphics could flip out, you could get huge amouts of items or none at all, it could permanently glitch saved games, or it could even ERASE all three slots. One of the only ways to prevent it is to just not sketch. The other way is to have bought a rereleased copy, where the glitch was eliminated. It's only happened to me twice; once, the screen filled with static and froze up, and the second time the screen flipped out again, except the enemy kept changing into a Were-Rat, Celes turned into Leo, Mog into Terra, Locke into Interceptor, and Terra into a treasure chest. It froze up after a few seconds after that. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ duncan's jumping glitch ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a meaningless little glitch that's fun to try out. The first time you go to Duncan's house (in case you didn't notice, Duncan's just a pallet-swap of Banon), go there WITHOUT Sabin. In his house you'll see him jumping around horizontally. Pause with X while he's still in midair and then unpause with B. He'll restart his jump where he was when you paused. Do this a few times and he'll end up in the black space around the room. ******************************************************************************************* O R D E R O F E V E N T S €€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€ NARSHE FIGARO CAVE OF FIGARO SOUTH FIGARO MT.
